Scott Harris and Nick Probert will provide a candid account of the challenges facing young people in Tasmania based on the 30-year perspective of the Beacon Foundation.
Beacon supports young people in areas of disadvantage to successfully transition from education to meaningful employment by working with schools, businesses and the broader community.
Scott has been the Chief Eexecutive Officer of Beacon for almost 20 years, and has overseen the growth of the organisation from a Tasmanian entity to a national operation with a presence in every state and territory. His commitment was recognised with a Macquarie Group Foundation David Clarke fellowship to study with Harvard and assess education systems in Europe.
Nick is the Tasmanian State Manager at Beacon, and leads a passionate team working to create a sustainable, collaborative approach to education by assisting secondary schools to engage business and industry more effectively to encourage young people to see the relevance of learning. He completed a Science degree while playing AFL for Collingwood, and came to Beacon following a successful career working with young people in Australian Rules football.
