Course overview
Are you new to home visiting or are you experienced and want to refresh your practice? Either way, this session will assist you to make your home visits more productive and safer.
Using realistic case scenarios and participant experiences we will explore and develop good practice policies, procedures and strategies which ensure your physical and emotional safety when entering and working in clients  home.
This training is essential for staff and volunteers working in Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) funded services to meet the CHSP training requirements.
Topics covered

Identifying safety issues; determining when it is safe, ways to improve safety and what to do if the visit becomes hazarous. 

Legal and ethical responsibilities of staff and volunteers when conducting home visits.

WHS and Duty of Care issues. 

Good risk assessment practice and tactics to ensure physical safety during home visiting;hazardous substances, manual handling, environment, threat of violence and substance abuse.

Practical safety tips and strategies to use for protecting emotional boundaries around client's history, behaviours, health status, domestic, social and support networks.

Who should participate?
Priority of access to this training is given to staff and volunteers currently working in Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) funded services located in the local government areas of; The City of Sydney, Woollhara, Waverley, Randwick and Bayside. 

How do I get there? 
There are a number of different transport options for you to choose from depending upon your departure point. 

Trains: Bondi Junction Train station is located 5 minutes walk (300 metres) away from the Mill Hill Centre.  Trains on this line are T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra lines.

Driving: metered on street parking is available or use the car park in the Eastgate Shopping Centre, Ebley Street, Bondi Junction - located 1 block away from the training venue.

   About the facilitator      
Betty Stampoulis-Lyttle has been working in the Community-Welfare sector for nearly 27 years, and contracted her services as an independent Training Consultant since 2011.
Her work has included the development and delivery of recreational, educational and therapeutic workshops for individuals with disability (and their carers), and training sessions for staff & volunteers, including teaching Welfare & Community Services at TAFE.
Betty is a member of the Institute for Learning Practitioners and founding member of National Disability Practitioners. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology), is accredited in Certificate IV Assessment & Workplace Training, and is currently undertaking a Masters in Social Work (Qualifying).
